This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and your browser loads nothing from third-party servers. Fonts are served from our own domain rather than from Google.

We do not track you across this site or any other. There is nothing to opt into and nothing to opt out of.

If you ask CogniBot a question, our own server sends it to AI to be answered. Your browser never contacts them, but the question does leave our systems. That is described in full below.

Our server reads your IP address to limit how many questions one visitor can ask in a short period. It is held in memory for that purpose alone, never written to a database, and disappears when the counting window closes — within an hour at most.

TODO: confirm with whoever hosts the site what is kept in server access logs, and for how long. Hosting providers usually log IP addresses automatically.

The contact form asks for your name, work email, an optional phone number, what you are trying to do, and a description of your project. You choose what to put in it.

We use those details to answer you and, if it goes further, to discuss and carry out the work. We do not sell them, and we do not add you to a marketing list you did not ask for.

The form does not send anything to our servers. Submitting it opens your own email program with the message ready to send, so what reaches us is an ordinary email from your own address, and nothing is stored here in between.

TODO: name the email provider that receives and stores that message, and say whether it holds data outside the UK or EEA.

CogniBot is the question box on this site. What you type into it is sent from our server to AI, which generates the answer and sends it back. AI acts as our processor for that request, and the request is made with retention switched off, so AI does not keep your question or the answer after it has replied.

We hold the conversation in the memory of the server process only, so that a follow-up question makes sense in context. It is never written to a database or a file, and it is deleted automatically one hour after your last message. Restarting the server also clears it.

We do not log the text of your questions. The only things written to our server logs are that a safety check was triggered and why, and that a request failed — neither of which includes what you wrote.

Do not put confidential information, personal details about other people, or anything you would not email us into CogniBot. It is there to answer questions about what we do, and the contact form is the right place for anything sensitive.

TODO: confirm and name the region in which AI processes these requests, and record the transfer safeguard relied on if that is outside the UK or EEA. AI processing in the United States would make this a restricted transfer under UK data protection law.

TODO: state a retention period. A common approach is to keep enquiries that do not become work for a set period, then delete them, and to keep client correspondence for as long as the contract and the relevant accounting rules require.

AI processes the questions put to CogniBot on our behalf, as described above.

TODO: list the other processors that handle personal data on our behalf — at minimum the email provider and the site host — and say whether any of them store data outside the UK or EEA.

We do not share your details with anyone else unless you ask us to, or unless the law requires it.

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we are using it.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date at the top. We will not apply a change retrospectively to data we have already collected.
